Afghan hardened Jehadis for NE: Asom DGPP
Guwahati, Nov 2 (UNI) Asom's Director General of Police D N Dutta today said Afghanistan-hardened Bangladeshi Jehadis have been sent to destabilise India's North East region.
He was speaking at the two-day conclave of all the DGPs of the NE region, which was also attended by the top officials from West Bengal and Sikkim Home departments and BSF officials.
Asom Police Intelligence chief Khagen Sharma here today said Jamtul Mujahadieen had been given the responsibility to carry out the operation to destabilise the NE region.
''These Jehadis have gone to Afghanistan to join the Taliban and returned back after the US intervention. They were the mastermind behind the serial blasts in Bangladesh recently, '' Mr Sharma said.
Mr Dutta said all officials were in agreement that intelligence must be shared fast between the police forces to check and stop the cross border terrorism in the region.
The annual conference deliberated upon the insurgency problem of the region and its adjoining areas, export of Islamic fundamentalism, and terrorism in the NE with focussed attention in the role of foreign agencies and the problem of cross border insurgency with special reference to Bangladesh, Bhutan and Myanmar, sources said.
Army officials also interacted with the DGPs to evolve an effective strategy to deal the insurgent activities here.
