Chennai, Nov 1 (UNI) Winergy Drive Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens, today started a new test branch for manufacturing Flender Graffenstaden high speed gear boxes at Chettipattu Village near here.

Speaking on the occasion, Flender Graffenstaden President Peter Leoni said the firm had identified Winergy as its first manufacturing plant outside France with an aim to gain new market share in India.

Since the Indian economy was growing everyday, he found the country a better place to cash in on the opportunity. Stating Winergy was also a group company of Flender Graffenstaden, Mr Leoni said both firms acquired by Siemens were working towards producing quality solutions to produce energy.

Next year the company proposed to export its products to the US and other countries.

The Indian market for high speed gear units had been growing at the rate of about 15 per cent in the last two years.

He claimed their global market share was more than 50 per cent while in the domestic market, especially supplying gear boxes to the above one MW wind energy units, they were in satisfactory position.

They had invested Rs 80 crore so far and it would be doubled towards expansion in a few years. The factory located on a 20-acre site met all global level environmental norms.

Their products were manufactured with 42 per cent indigenisation and the first unit of the Flender Graffenstaden High-Speed Gear Box would be rolled out shortly.

The annual production capacity of FGHS gear boxes would be 150 and it would be doubled in another two years time. At present, they had orders on hand for supplying 28 unit of gear boxe for 8 MW to 25 MW captive power plants.
