Villagers light candles, train mishap victims buried
Kancheepuram, Nov 1 (UNI) A pall of gloom descended on the Orikkai Village as it received the bodies of 17 people who were crushed to death when an EMU train rammed into the autorickshaw in which they were travelling at Pudupakkam, near here, yesterday.
Villagers lit 17 candles this morning as a mark of respect to the deceased. Masthan, the driver of the autorickshaw was buried as per Muslim rites.
The bodies of 16 other victims were brought to the burial ground in the village by two bullock carts and buried in a huge pit dug up for the purpose.
People are visiting the village in large numbers to convey their condolences to the bereaved.
