Uma seeks intervention by senior BJP leaders
Chhatarpur, MP, Nov 1 (UNI) Alleging that a conspiracy to kill her was being planned, Bharatiya Jan Shakti President Uma Bharti today sought intervention of senior BJP leaders to prevent the "degradation" of their party in Madhya Pradesh.
''I urge senior BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani to bring to an end to this aspect of politics of their party in Madhya Pradesh,'' Ms Bharti told reporters here.
The appeal comes at a time when confrontation between the BJP and the BJS had come to a head over assembly by-elections in Malehra with tempers running high and allegations and counter-allegations being exchanged.
She alleged that a conspiracy to murder her was hatched up by a particular community from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh at Pandjhir in Chhatarpur. At that time, Superintendent of Police Chanchal Shekhar was present outside the meeting venue and this proved that the conspiracy had the protection of the state government.
The BJS leader said an attempt to attack her helicopter was made at Jaitpur in Malehra earlier, while her convoy was attacked and stoned at the fag end of polling on October 30.
