Respite from rain; Chennai limps back to normalcy
Chennai, Nov 1 (UNI) After being battered by rains over the last couple of days, people of this teeming metropolis today woke up to bright sunshine and clear skies, even as yesterday's fresh trough of Low Pressure area over the Southwest Bay and the adjoining West-Central Bay persists.
Weather office sources told UNI here today under its influence rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places over Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry during the next 24 hours.
Though the Northeast monsoon still remained active, the forecast for Chennai city was that there was a possibility of shower or thundershowers in some areas during the same period.
The rains which had flooded several low lying areas, mercifully stayed away since yesterday afternoon, allowing the city and the marooned suburbs to slowly limp back to normalcy.
The situation in Chennai city improved considerably and the water had dried out in several places.
The sunny weather came as a boon to those living in southern and northern suburbs like Madipakkam, Ramnagar, Thoraipakkam and Vysarpadi as the rain water started receding.
