Mah govt to develop Bollywood tourism concept
Mumbai, Nov 1 (UNI) Developing the concept of Bollywood tourism is among the highlights of the new Tourism policy announced by the Maharashtra Government here today.
Addressing a press conference after the weekly cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said the idea is being considered because the Mumbai film industry is one of the main attractions of tourists coming to the country's financial capital.
Water sports and night sea tourism will also be developed on the Mumbai's sea shores, he added.
To boost the local folk art and cuisine, 'Mumbai Haat' will be conceptualised on the lines of 'Dilli Haat' in the national capital.
Mr Deshmukh said setting up of a convention centre, festivals and cultural events by the tourism department and promoting medical tourism are the other highlights of the new policy.
Admitting that the state has lagged behind in promoting its tourism potential for several years, Mr Deshmukh said there are 9100 five star hotel rooms in the city and suburbs which are inadequate.
The government will come out with an incentive scheme to encourage the hotel industry to set up more starred hotels in the city.
'Mumbai by the hour' ,a information guide to the city will be prepared and a Mumbai SHopping festival will also be held, he informed.
The Tourism Promotion Council which is proposed to be set up, will have the Chief MInister as the chairman. The members will comprise of experts from the field of business, industry and tourism, film industry representatives, transport operators,event managers among others.
The council will act as advisor to develop,promote and guide tourism related activity in the state.
