Impose President's Rule in UP : Jiten
Lucknow, Nov 1 (UNI) Congress Lok Sabha member from Shahjahanpur Jiten Prasad today demanded imposition of President's Rule in Uttar Pradesh, in view of the flouting of constitutional norms during the ongoing urban local bodies poll.
''The way ruling Samajwadi Party supporters in nexus with the government officials including police, have rigged the poll, it was an attack on the constitutional and democratic norms of the country,'' he said.
In a statement here, Mr Prasad alleged the activities of the Mulayam Singh Yadav government during the local bodies poll has put a question mark on what will happen during the coming assembly election in UP.
''There cannot be a free and fair election under the present SP-led government,'' he maintained.
Demanding immediate removal of Shahjahanpur Police Superintendent, Mr Prasad -- the son of late Congress leader Jitendra Prasad -- claimed the police officer worked as an SP activist during the nagar palika election on October 28.
Mr Prasad, is the third Congress MP from UP to demand president's rule in UP following misuse of power by the SP in the local bodies poll.
Union minister of state for steel Akhilesh Das and Rashid Alvi, both Rajya Sabha members, had already demanded promulgation of Article 356 of the Constitution in UP.
