Governor urges MLAs to sink differences

Bhopal, Nov 1 (UNI) Pointing out that people's representatives had great responsibility of bringing about positive social changes, Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar has urged them to spare no effort and sink mutual differences in order to realise this objective.

Dr Jakhar, while addressing the concluding function of the golden jubilee celebrations of Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha yesterday, said ideological differences were bound to happen in a democratic system, an official release here said.

However, it must not lead to animosity because it weakened democracy.

Underlining the importance of united efforts for attaining common welfare, he said the activities of the people's representatives were under public scanner.

Referring to rich cultural heritage of Madhya Pradesh, the Governor said the state had produced all time great poets Kalidas and Banbhatta and enjoyed distinction of possessing world-renowned monuments like Bhojpur, Bhimbaitika, Khajurao and Sanchi.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Ishwardas Rohani said the golden jubilee year should be an opportunity for introspection.

He pointed out that presently the voter was powerful only at the time of polling. The general public felt short change with the machinery.

Mr Rohani claimed that the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha had carved out a distinct identity in the past 50 years due to the fact that people's representatives of all parties had shown rare unity with regard to development despite ideological differences.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reiterated the state government's promise for all-round development with the cooperation all the parties and said development issues must be kept above party politics.

He said the treasury bench respect the opposition and all efforts would be made to enlist their cooperation in development process. He called upon the members to resolve to make politics a medium of development and prosperity of the state.

Mr Chouhan said the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha was witness to various changes. The CM also felicitated the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha and citizens of that state on the occasion.

He added the golden jubilee celebrations of Vidhan Sabha reminded of the dream to build a new, free and prosperous India, dreamt during the freedom movement. The Vidhan Sabha had contributed significantly to enforcement of the constitutional provisions to ensure equal rights and opportunities and maintaining law and order in the state.

Deputy Speaker of Vidhan Sabha Hajarilal Raghuvanshi and Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi also addressed on the occasion. The Governor presented mementos to former chief ministers Digvijay Singh, Babular Gaur and other senior MLAs, the release added.
