Gitanjali Gems Commissions First SEZ as per new policy

Mumbai, Nov 1 (UNI) Gitanjali Gems Limited today commissioned its Diamond and Jewellery Training Centre in Hyderabad, making it the first SEZ to be conceptualised and completed as per the new SEZ guidelines.

Stretching over 15,000 square feet, the facility would house diamond cutting and polishing units, testing laboratories, certification centres, banks, merchandising centres and other services relevant to the trade, a release issued here today said.

To mark the occasion, one thousand appointment letters were handed out by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to workers who have been selected by the government to be trained at the newly opened Diamond Training Institute of the Hyderabad Gems SEZ.

These beneficiaries will be absorbed into the diamond and jewellery manufacturing units of the group which will commence operations from June 2007, the time when they will be completing their training, the release added.
