Forest officials told UNI today have the incident happened when an elephant herd tried to cross the swollen river. Two baby elephants were swept by the swirling waters. However, one of them was saved by a tusker while the other was dragged along by the strong currents.

Some tribals who noticed this immediately alerted the forest officials who managed to rescue the calf.

Interestingly, the herd witnessed the rescue operation along with the huge crowd of curious onlookers.

After a medical check-up, the animal was released into the forest. It immediately ran towards its mother.
