Exhibition on Sharmila at Manipur University

Imphal, Nov 01 (UNI) A three-day exhibition on the life and works of Irom Sharmila has started yesterday at the Manipur University.

The exhibition, entitled 'Celebrating the work of peace women in solidarity with Sharmila,' has been organised by Human Rights Alert (HRA), North East Network (NEN), ANHAD, South Asia Network of Gender Activist and Trainers (SANGAT), Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) and other organisations.

The organisers said Sharmila had been on fast unto death demanding repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 since November 2000 and she was forcibly nasal feeded at the AIIMS, New Delhi. She did not even touch a drop of water since she started the fast.

Sharmila was among the 1000 women who were selected for the Nobel Peace prize. Their photographs were displayed in the exhibition.

Film shows, panel discussions have been organised.
