Borg sells 1976 Wimbledon racket for charity

STOCKHOLM, Nov 1 (Reuters) Eleven-times grand slam champion Bjorn Borg raised over 10,000 dollar for charity after auctioning the racket he used during his 1976 Wimbledon triumph, the daily Dagens Nyheter reported today.

The 50-year-old Swede, who won the first of his five consecutive Wimbledon titles 30 years ago, donated the 10,440 dollar to breast cancer research.

In March Borg announced he was selling his five replica trophies from the tournament and the two rackets he used during the 1976 and 1980 finals because he and his family needed long-term financial security. But he later changed his mind and withdrew the items from sale.
