Asif Khan Junaid sent to judicial custody
Mumbai, Nov 1 (UNI) MCOCA court today sent Asif Khan Bashir Khan Junaid, arrested in connection with the July 11 serial blasts in the Mumbai suburban trains, to judicial custody till November nine.
Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) personnel produced Junaid before the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act Judge M R Bhatkar during the day after completing his scientific tests at Bangalore last week. Since the ATS did not seek his further police custody, the court sent him to judicial custody alongwith other 12 accused in this case.
On interrogation, Junaid revealed that he was a prominent SIMI activist and was president of its Maharashtra unit. Since February 2006, Junaid was instrumental in arranging several meetings to chalk out the plan for bomb blasts in running local trains in the house of another accused Faisal Shaikh.
On July eleven, seven bomb explosions in as many different local suburban trains under western railway between 1823 hrs and 1828 hrs claimed 187 lives and injured over 800 people.
