AP govt violating norms in power project allotments: Ronya

Itanagar, Nov 1 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh BJP leader Lijum Ronya has accused the state government of not following the procedures while allocating hydro-electric power projects to three private companies.

Mr Ronya, who was also the state power minister, here today claimed that five power projects were allotted to private companies without floating global tenders whereas as per convention the global tender should have been floated, inviting better bidding to implement mega hydel projects in the state.

He claimed that the tribal people, who own the natural resources on the project site, have vehemently opposed the agreement with private parties and demanded their cancellation. The failure to respond to public demand might lead to litigation for safeguarding the interest of innocent tribal population and further cancellation of the agreement with private parties, he added.

He said,'' The National Hydro-electric Power Corporation (NHPC) must be allowed to implement the five projects in the Siang basin as it had already created infrastructure and accommodation for field staff, besides procuring equipment and machineries for survey and investigation in three project sites. The detailed project report (DPR) of two power projects have already been approved by Central Electricity Authority.'' Solicitor general of India has given no objection to the Memorandum of Understanding on these three projects between state government and the NHPC, he added.
