Administrators over Priyamvada Birla estate imperative

Kolkata, Nov 1 (UNI) Resuming submission on behalf of Laxmi Devi Newar, sister of Late M P Birla, senior counsel S B Mookherjee today appointed a team of administrators over the estate of late Priyamvada Devi Birla.

Mr Mookherjee submitted that when the estate was vast and of substantial value, it was imperative that administrators were appointed.

Mr Mookherjee asserted that Mutual Wills executed by the Birla couple on July 13, 1982, envisaged bequest of all their assets to charity.

During their lifetime, they created trust in 1988 in conformity with the said Mutual Wills.

However, it appeared that there was only a solitary letter dated June 27, 2000, communicating to the Income Tax Authorities about the dissolution of the trust on April 15, 1999, and the purported Will was executed three days later on April 18, 1999.

The appeal is scheduled for further hearing on November 15.
