34 HKHS Actrivists arrested
Gulbarga, Nov 01(UNI) As many as 34 activists of the Hyderabad Karnataka Horata Samithi (HKHS), which is opposing the celebration of Rajyothsava day, alleging step-motherly attitude of the state government towards the development of Northern Karnataka region, were arrested when they tried to disrupt the function here today.
The activists led by HKHS youth leader Dr Vikram Patil, tried to barge waiving black flags, shouting slogans against the celebration, were however whisked away by the police.
The incident took place when the district incharge minister Sharana Basappa Darshanapur, was about to launch the celebration and flag-off a rally. The police also allegedly canned the activists before arresting them.
Reacting sharply over the arrest, HKHS President and JD(S) expelled leader Vyjanath Patil, condemned the attitude of the state government which was continuously neglecting the Northern Karnataka.
Later the activists of HKHS also hoisted flag of the Hyderabad- Karnataka state demanding the separate state. Defending the action Mr Patil said that only separate state can mitigate the problems being faced by the people of the area which is most backward region in the state.
