16 killed in bus accident in northern Bangladesh
Dhaka, Nov 1 (UNI) At least 16 people were killed and 60 injured when two passenger buses collided head-on at Raiganj in Sirajganj district of northern Bangladesh, police said today.
The accident occurred when a Rangpur-bound bus from Dhaka lost control and rammed into a Pabna-bound bus from Bogra at about 1115 hrs local time, initial reports said.
The casualty figure may go up as some of the injured were in a critical condition, locals said.
The injured were rushed to different hospitals and clinics in Sirajganj, Bogra and Raiganj.
Most of the passengers in the two buses were returning to their workplace after the Eid-ul-Fitr festival, and the subsequent violent political agitation that disrupted communications throughout the country late last month.
