Threatening e-mail accused in police custody
Kochi, Oct 30: Akbar Raj, arrested for sending e-mail messages threatening President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, was today remanded in police custody till November three.
Ernakulam First Class Magistrate II K S Sharat Chandran remanded the accused into police custody after the state police moved an application seeking his custody for interrogation.
Akbar, hailing from Cherthala in Alappuzha district, was arrested on Saturday night for sending ''malicious e-mails'' to top officials with a motive to trap a girl.
The e-mails were sent to about 20 senior officials, including the CBI Director, Delhi Police Commisioner and several SPs of the state, on October 27, following which Kerala police registered two suo motu cases under IPC sections 506 for sedition and 120 for threatening the President and Prime Minister.
