'Lanka accepting to talk to LTTE a mistake'

New Delhi, Oct 30: Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy today said Sri Lanka committed a grievous mistake by succumbing to Norwegian pressure and agreeing to attend the peace talks at Geneva with the LTTE.

In a statement, Dr Swamy said the talks would only legitimise the LTTE, an internationally banned terrorist organisation and these talks were engineered by the Norwegians for 'private and pecuniary' reasons and they had no clue about the real reason behind the problems in the Island nation. It was ridiculously stupid on the part of Sri Lanka to nominate its mediators.

He said LTTE, as a part of a solution to the Sri Lankan crisis, would not be acceptable to any patriotic Indian and the Geneva talks would be against the Indian interest. The Sri Lankan leadership should not participate in any talks with LTTE and its Parliament should adopt a resolution to replace its unitary Constitution with quasi federal Constitution to meet the legitimate aspirations of the Tamil people in the Island nation.
