Russian paraglider missing in HP

Dharamshala, Oct 25 (UNI) An unidentified Russian paraglider was missing after crash landing in the forest area between Chamunda and Jadrangal of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh today.

Confirming that a paraglider had crash landed somewhere in the Bir Billing forests, Tourism Deputy Director Manoj Sharma told UNI here that efforts were on to trace him.

He said rescue and retrieval teams have been rushed towards the forest areas where the other pilots had seen the Russian pilot crash landing.

The information that the glider had crashed in the forests was conveyed to the authorities by other pilots who saw him crashing during a routine flight, he said.

The Russian had also lost communication with the control room and other pilots after crash landing, he said, adding that his fate was still unknown.

Mr Sharma said the rescue teams were combing the forest area in search of the missing pilots, adding that the Russian was not taking part in the Himalayan Paragliding Cup that concluded here and was a free flier.

Since he was not here to participate in the tournament, his identity has not yet been established, he added.
