Declaring

no
middlemen
would
be
allowed
in
defence
deals,
Defence
Minister
Pranab
Mukherjee
today
said
the
government
would
soon
announce
new
procedures
for
the
registration
of
arms
dealers.
The
government
would
soon
announce
procedures
to
make
it
easier
and
mandatory
for
all
arms
agents
to
register
themselves
with
not
only
the
Defence
Ministry,
but
also
the
Reserve
Bank
of
India,
Mr
Mukherjee
said
at
the
FICCI-sponsored
seminar
on
'Public-Private
Parternship
in
Defence
Procurements'.
''There is a ban in force on middlemen,'' he said and pointed out that the new arms procurement policy made it necessary for all weapon sellers to sign integrity pacts, binding them not to use middlemen in deals.
Though middlemen are banned in weapons deals, the ban would not be applicable to duly registered arms agents, he added.
