Moderate tremor in Sumatra

New Delhi, Oct 25 (UNI) An earthquake of moderate intensity, measuring 5 on the Richter scale, shook the Northern Sumatra region of Indonesia close to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands this morning.

The tremor, which was felt at 1036 hrs, was recorded by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) observatory.

The epicentre was in Northern Sumatra, IMD said.

The region was devastated by the December 26 monster tsunami in 2004, which had also wreaked havoc in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.
