MK's gesture to poor student

Chennai, Oct 25 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced the government would bear the full educational expenditure of a poor medical student besides providing financial assistance to 36 students to pursue engineering courses.

An official release here said the government would pay the education and special fees of Umamageswari directly to the Dean of Tirunelveli Government Medical college.

Hailing from a poor family in Cuddalore District, the girl had secured 1,121 out of 1,200 marks in the Plus Two examination and was finding it difficult to pay fees from her flower vendor father's meagre earnings.

Considering her status, the government also allowed the girl to stay free of cost at the Palayamkottai College Ladies Hostel till she completed her studies.

Similarly, following a representations from 36 poor students, Mr Karunanidhi ordered an assistance of Rs 25,000 each from the Chief Minister's General Relief fund to meet their educational expenditure, it added.
