Maj Gen Swamy to be new OTA commandant
Chennai, Oct 25 (UNI) Major General R K Swamy will be the new Commandant of the Officers Training Academy (OTA), an OTA release said today.
He will assume charge tomorrow from Brig William Isaaks, who has held the post for the last three months.
An Alumnus of the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Major General Swamy was commissioned into the Mahar Regiment (Infantry) in November 1971. Born in Chennai, he did his schooling in Besant Cultural Trust and later studied in the Madras Christian College before joining IMA.
His distinguished career, spanning three and a-half decades, is notable for a host of coveted instructional and administrative appointments that include Instructor at Weapons Wing, Infantry School, Mhow, Directing Staff and Senior Instructor at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.
He commanded an Infantry Brigade in the Eastern Sector and later became the General Officer Commanding of an Infantry Division in the Counter Insurgency Force prior to taking over the command of OTA.
He was awarded the 'Vishisht Seva Medal' while serving as Deputy Military Secretary, in Command Headquarters, Northern Command. He is also serving as the Colonel Commandant of the Mahar Regiment since September eight 2004.
