Three sisters commit suicide

Shimoga, Karnataka, Oct 24 (UNI) Dejected by financial woes and destitution, three sisters have committed suicide by jumping into Savalanga tank at Honnali taluk in the district, last evening.

Police sources said the siblings -- Kumari Bai (21), Manji Bai (15) and Nandu Bai (12) -- took the extreme step as their father had deserted them after their mother died recently of a prolonged illness. The sisters had been living with their maternal uncle after their mother's death and had no source of income.

Police recovered the bodies from the tank this afternoon and sent it to the Shimoga district hospital for post-mortem.
