Ningol Chakkouba celebrated in Manipur

Imphal, Oct 24 (UNI) Ningol Chakkouba festival was celebrated in Manipur today.

The married women wore their best clothes and went to parental houses for a grand feast.

The Manipur University Students' Union organised Ningol Chakkouba at Manipur University, where women from all communities, participated as a sign of unity and brotherhood.

The Fishery department is also opening sales counter at the MapakKangjeibung, Imphal where varieties of fishes were sold and 40 tonnes of fish were displayed.

State Fishery Minister Mangi said,''Fish is the favourite dish of the Manipuris. Around 25,000 MT fish was required every year and we produce about 18,000 MT. The shortage was met by importing from other states.'' Governor Dr S S Sidhu said the festival-revives family ties and affection and reaffirms the bond which ties brothers and sisters.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said it is heartening that other communities have also started celebrating the festival reinforcing unity amid diversity in the state he said.
