Imphal, Oct 24 (UNI) Manipur Governor Dr SS Sidhu today greeted people of the state on Id festival.
In an Id message on the eve of Id, Dr Sidhu said, ''The holy festival disseminates the message of peace, brotherhood and friendship which are the sustaining forces for ensuring peaceful coexistence in the civil society. Peaceful co-existence, setting aside the differences of caste, creed and religion, is the need of the hour.'' Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said, ''The month of Ramzaan, culminating in Id-UI-Fitre, is a period of cleansing through the rigorous observance of fast.'' It gives opportunity to purify mind, body and reaffirm the spiritual link of the human soul with Almighty.
''Id-UI-Fitre reminds us to the mankind's spiritual unity which transcends all barriers and divisions. This is also a time to give alms and contemplate the welfare of those less fortunate than us and the poor,'' Mr Singh said.
The underlying piety, compassion and feeling of brotherhood have universal validity and are uniquely relevant for our times. On this day, let us pledge our undying commitment to peace, love, harmony and spiritual oneness, he said.
Other social organisations also greeted the minority community.
