Man hacked to death on busy road in TN capital
Chennai, Oct 24 (UNI) A man was hacked to death by a six-member armed gang in full public view at the busy Kathipara Junction in Guindy here last evening.
Police sources said realtor and businessman Udaya (35) and his friend Sultan were approaching Kathipara on a two-wheeler when the car-borne gang pounced on them and attacked the duo with lethal weapons.
While Udaya, who sustained multiple cuts on his head and other parts of the body, bled to death on the spot, Sultan suffered cut injuries on his neck and was admitted to the Government Royapettah Hospital.
The incident occurred in front of a busy shopping mall at around 1800 hrs and the place was barely a stone's throw away from the offices of the Joint Commissioner of Police (South) and the St Thomas Mount Deputy Commissioner of Police.
A large posse of policemen were also present at the junction to maintain the traffic when the murder took place.
Tension prevailed in the area following the murder and shopkeepers downed shutters.
As Udaya was involved in some cases in the past, police suspect previous enmity or gang rivalry behind the murder. Six special teams have been formed to nab the culprits.
