Fire destroys 15 thatched houses

Vijayawada, Oct 24 (UNI) As many as 15 thatched houses were gutted in a fire at Chalsaninagar here today.

Krishnalanka Fire Station Officer Choudhary told UNI the fire occurred when sparks from a oven in one of the houses fell on the thatched roof. It soon spread to the other houses.

About 25 families were living in the locality. However, no loss of life was reported though property estimated at around Rs two lakh was destroyed.

Three fire engines were pressed into service and the flames doused in an hour, he said.
