Eid to be celebrated in UP tomorrow

Lucknow, Oct 24 (UNI) While Muslims in Karnataka, Delhi and Tamil Nadu today celebrated Eid with fervour and traditional gaiety, a statement issued by the Markazi Chand Committee (MCC) here said the festival would be celebrated in Uttar Pradesh tomorrow.

Eid is being celebrated in several parts of the country today.

MCC ended the confusion by issuing an official statement, saying Eid would be celebrated on October 25 in UP.

Last month, prominent Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Sadiq had issued a statement fixing October 25 as Eid.

Meanwhile, UP Governor T V Rajeswar and Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav wished the people on the auspicious occasion of Eid.

Mr Rajeswar and Mr Yadav visited Eidgah here and wished the Muslim community on Eid.

In their messages, they said ''may the festival brings peace and prosperity in the life of the people.'' ''The significance of Eid is that people observe the ninth month of the Muslim calendar by fasting and for purification of soul. It is a period of worship and the real joy lies in sharing happiness with lesser blessed sections of society,'' they observed.
