Eid celebrated in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 24 (UNI) Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramzan, was today celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across the national capital.

Muslims offered prayers in mosques across Delhi early in the morning. Scores of people offered 'Namaz' at the main congregations in the Jamia Masjid in the walled city which is abuzz with activity since late last night.

Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari last night announced that the Eid moon was sighted and the festival will be celebrated on October 24.

Soon after, people flocked the markets within the walled city for the Eid shopping.

At the Shahi Masjid Fatehpuri, Shahi Imam Mohammed Mukarram Ahmed led the Eid prayers and delivered the sermon.

Greeting the people, Delhi Lt Governor B L Joshi exhorted the people to celebrate Eid by spreading the ''message of love among mankind''.

''The city of Delhi has a glorious tradition of communal harmony and upholding values of mutual understanding,'' he added.
