Atal, Jaya Prada to campaign in UP local polls

Lucknow, Oct 24: A galaxy of politicians, including former Prime Minister and Lucknow MP Atal Bihari Vajpayee, BJP president Rajnath Singh and cine star Jaya Prada would be seen in action during the much hyped electioneering in the urban local body elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Mr Vajpayee would campaign for BJP mayoral candidate, while the ruling Samajwadi Party has decided to rope in the charm of cine-star-turned-politician and Lok Sabha MP from Rampur Jaya Prada.

Jaya Prada would be addressing a public meeting in Chander Nagar area of Alambagh in the state capital on October 27. At the same time,the former Prime Minister would be addressing a meeting in the same area, besides speaking at a similar meeting at Kapoorthala earlier in the day. BJP has fielded Dr Dinesh Sharma for the city mayor's seat.

Prior to Mr Vajpayee's addresses, BJP national vice-president and in-charge of party's state affairs, Kalyan Singh would address a public meeting at Rajajipuram on Thursday. He would also address the public at Munshipulia on October 28.

BJP's national general secretary and firebrand Ram Temple movement leader Vinay Katiyar would address a public meeting on October 29.

Meanwhile yesterday, Congress mayoral candidate Manzoor Ahmad carried out a 'Rath Yatra'. Accompanied by Akhilesh Das, union minister of state for steel, Manzoor addressed a large number of public meetings during the 'yatra.' On the other hand, SP candidate Dr Madhu Gupta had yesterday in her support members of Samajwadi Adhivakta Sabha led by former advocate general and Rajya Sabha member Virendra Bhatia.
