93.73 lakh tonnes paddy arrive in Punjab

Chandigarh, Oct 24 (UNI) About 93.73 lakh tonnes of paddy have arrived in the mandis of Punjab so far, as against about 86.14 lakh metric tonnes during the corresponding period last year.

Disclosing this here today, Food and Supplies Minister Lal Singh said that out of the total, 20.57 lakh tonnes had been procured by Pungrain, 16.81 lakh tonnes by Markfed, 20.60 lakh tonnes by Punsup, 9.15 lakh tonnes by Punjab State Warehousing Corporation and 10.41 lakh tonnes by Punjab Agro Industries Corporation.

The Food Corporation of India (FCI) had purchased 2.10 lakh tonnes while the private millers and traders had procured 14.08 lakh tonnes.

Sangrur was leading in paddy arrival with 13.15 lakh tonnes having arrived in the mandis till yesterday evening. Ferozepur district was second with 10.95 lakh tonnes of paddy.
