Two die due to haevy rains; electrocution claims three lives
Haridwar, Oct 23 (UNI) Untimely heavy rains accompanied by hailstorm and lightning claimed two lives in the district, while three people were killed due to electrocution near the holy city.
Shaheed, a resident of the village Nihandpur Suthari&Yameen, resident of the village Sultanpur, died yesterday while working in their fields, as torrential rains&hailstorm lashed the region.
More than three dozen cattle also perished in the hailstorm, while standing crops worth Rs lakhs were devastated, sources said.
A team of doctors rushed to the affected villages.
The injured were admitted to various hospitals.
In Rampur village, near Roorkee, the dome of a mosque fell down as lightning struck the edifice, the sources said.
Three people, including two children, were killed near Aanand Van Samadhi in Rodibalewala near here yesterday when a high tension wire fell down from an electric pole.
The Electricity department announced an ex-gratia of Rs 35,000 to the deceased of the kin.
