Trough in Bay near TN, Pondy

Chennai, Oct 23 (UNI) The North East Monsoon has become more active, thanks to a trough of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal near Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Pondicherry.

The low pressure brought good spells of rain to the State.

Weather office sources told UNI today that under its influence rain or thundershowers were likely to occur at many places over Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry during the next 48 hrs.

Chennai and suburbs experienced incessant rains since the morning, providing much-needed respite to the people of this metropolis, who were experiencing prolonged intense heat wave conditions.

Several low-lying areas were inundated and traffic snarls were witnessed at many places. The showers were heavy at times flooding several narrow streets.
