Tripura Mizos demand rehabilitation

Aizawl, Oct 23 (UNI) Mizos living in Tripura, have demanded compensation and rehabilitation for having been evicted from their homes by Bru rebels.

In a statement here today, Displaced Mizo Welfare, Sakhan pointed out that more than 80 families living in the Sakhan Hill range of Tripura had been evicted from their homes by Bru rebels.

These families had sought shelter with relatives and other Mizo families living in the Jampui Hills of Tripura.

''We all know that the Brus left Mizoram of their own to become refugees in Tripura, but the state government initiated measures to rehabilitate them discriminating atainst us as we were forc ibly evicted from homes by Bru rebels,'' said Lalfaksanga, SDMW general secretary.

He said, ''SDMW does not take it very kindly for Bru rebels to force them out from our traditional lands and if the Mizoram government can help the Brus, there is no reason to neglect Mizo families who have been displaced by the Brus.'' Most of the Mizos fled home and hearth following threat and sought shelter with other Mizo families living in Jampui hills.

SDMW leaders stated that they had approached state Home minister Tawnluia as well as state Home secretary C Ropianga several times but nothing has yet been done.
