Chennai, Oct 23 (UNI) The all party meeting convened by the Tamil Nadu government today decided to hold talks with the Kerala government to find a negotiated settlement to the vexed Mullaiperiyar dam issue.

The all party meeting, chaired by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi here, unanimously decided that the Tamil Nadu government could hold talks with the Kerala government, as suggested by the Supreme court, in the presence of the Centre as a ''gesture of goodwill''.

Adopting a resolution to this effect, the all party meeting, however, made it clear that, if the talks failed to yeild the desired result, the Tamil Nadu government should approach the Supreme Court and insist the the court direct Kerala to implement its February 27 order permitting Tamil Nadu to raise te level of water in the dam to 142 ft from 136 ft.

Later, the apex court, while accepting the views putforth by the Tamil Nadu government on raising the water level to 142 ft., had suggested that the two governments hold talks for a negotiated settlement on their own or in the presence of the Centre.
