Talukdar misses podium finish, finishes 4th in World Cup final
Merida, Mexico, Oct 23 (UNI) Jayanta Talukdar's form deserted him when he needed it the most and the 20-year-old archer finished fourth to miss the Bronze medal in the men's recurve section of the World Cup Finals here today.
In the match against Ilario Di Buo of Italy, Jayanta's hopes to reach the finals went up in smoke when he shot a series of 8s in the second end.
Before that, Jayanta was tied with the Italian bowman 27-27 in the first end of the match. The Indian was trailing 52-54 and then 80-83 in the two following ends.
Things looked brighter after that as Jayanta shot three excellent last arrows (10,10,9) but his Italian opponent shot three 9s to edge him out 110-109.
In the match for Bronze medal against Magnus Petersson, Jayanta had a poor start, shooting 25 out of a possible 30 and he could not come back after that setback and the Swede went on to win the Bronze with a 111-107 victory over the Indian.
Korean Park Kyung-Mo beat Di Buo 112-105 to win the Gold.
