Tagore poem: Federation wants action on 'erring' official

Puducherry, Oct 23 (UNI) Close on the heels of Dravida Peravai here defending a Puducherry Government offical on the charges of alleged distortion of Rabindranath Tagore's poem, the Federation for Peoples Rights here today demanded action against him.

In a statement, Federation Secretary G Sugumaran said it was wrong on the part of Art and Culture Department Secretary B V Selvaraj to distort the poem in Tagore's Geethanjali as it amounted to maligning the poet's image Mr Sugumaran requested Chief Minister N Rangasamy to initiate action against the 'erring' official as requested by his West Bengal Counterpart Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.

The Federation would write to the President, Prime Minister and the Home Minister on the issue, he said.
