Surekha, Krishna Punia steal show at National Circuit

Written by: Staff

Patiala, Oct 23 (UNI) V S Surekha and Krishna Punia stole the limelight in Pole Vault and Discus respectively in the 4th National Circuit Meet here today.

Surekha vaulted 4.08m in the women's section, improving her own record of 4.08m, while woman Discus thrower Krishna Punia hurled the disc to a distance of 60.31m, leaving behind well known throwers Seema Antil (58.52m) and Harwant Kaur (55.28m).

The Meet was rather off colour since some top flight athletes stayed away from the event which has much significance in light of the fast approaching Asian Games to be held in Doha from December one to 15.

This was the last AFI Domestic Meet. Before the Asian Games in Doha, the athletes will get one more chance to show their prowess in the All India Open Athletic Meet in Chennai to be held from November two to five.
