Scheme for aid to unemployed youth: launch on Nov 11

Chennai, Oct 23 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will launch on November 11 a scheme to provide finanical assistance to unemployed youth in the state, fulfilling another DMK poll promise.

Mr Karunanidhi would launch the scheme and distribute financial assistance to unemployed youth on November 11 at Tiruchirapalli, while his ministerial colleagues would launch the scheme in other districts, an official release here said.

The scheme, originally slated for October 2, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanthi, could not be launched then in view of the model code of conduct for the local body elections.

Under the scheme, monthly financial assistance would be given to educated youth who had not got employment even after completion of five years from date of registration in the employment exchange.

The assistance would be given for three years at the rate of Rs 150 to those who had passed the school final examination, Rs 200 for those who had passed higher secondary or Pre-University Course and Rs 300 for graduates and Post-Graduates.

After the DMK announced the scheme in its election manifesto, an assurance of implementation was given in the budget for 2006-07. The government would incur annual expenditure of Rs 110 crore for this scheme, it was announced in the budget.
