Punjab govt releases Rs 20.03 crore for Nambardars

Chandigarh, Oct 23 (UNI) The Punjab government has released an amount of Rs 20.03 crore for the payment of honorarium to 33,397 Nambardars of the state for the current febcal.

This honorarium would be paid from April one, 2006, at the rate of Rs 500 per month to the Nambardars, Punjab Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister Jasjit Singh Randhawa said here today.

Meeting a delegation of Nambardars Union, the Minister assured them that due respect would be paid to them at the state government functions and in government offices. In this regard, he added, directions would be issued to the authorities concerned.

Mr Randhawa also declared that one member from the Nambardars, would be included into the Tehsil and District Grievances Committees in the state. Their demand of increasing the current share of five per cent revenue collection, popularly known as ''Panchotra'', up to ten per cent would be sent to the Irrigation department for consideration, he added.

Senior officials of the Revenue and Rehabilitation department were also present in the meeting, a spokesman here said.
