Milk supply to dairy units affected as farmers agitate
Kolhapur, Oct 23 (UNI) Supply of milk to dairy units was today affected following an agitation called by the milk-supplying farmers here.
The milk supply bandh agitation, called by MLA Raju Shetty-led Swabhimani Shetakari Sanghatana, was held to get higher price of Rs 18 per litre to the farmers in the district.
The agitating farmers stopped tankers carrying milk at some places and emptied the containers by pouring it on the roads.
The Kolhapur Zilla Sahakari Dudh Utpadak Sangh (KZSDUS), a major milk collecting unit which is also known as Gokul, today stopped its milk collection in order to aviod any untowarrd incident.
The farmers supply about ten lakh litres of milk per day to the various dairy units including Gokul, Warna Sahakari Dudh Utpadak Sangh and others in the district.
