Man killed as balcony collapses

Chennai, Oct 23: A middle-aged man was crushed to death and his wife and son injured when a portion of the balcony collapsed and fell on them at Tiruvottriyur in North Chennai in the wee hours of today.

Police said the victims were fast asleep on the ground floor when a portion of the first floor balcony, which was in a dilapidated condition, collapsed, killing the man on the spot.

His wife and son were admitted to the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital.

The man was eking out a living by selling haystacks to milk vendors.
