INLD to hold protest rally following farmer's suicide
Kurukshetra, Oct 23 (UNI) The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) will hold a protest rally in front of the Deputy Commissioner office here tomorrow to pressurise the administration to register a criminal case against Thanesar MLA Ramesh Gupta for abatement to suicide of a farmer.
It may be recalled that a farmer, Labh Singh, had committed suicide on October two last in village Khaira in the district.
The INLD has scheduled a protest march from Brahamsarovar to the Mini Secretariat, where the the activists would hold the dharna and the protest rally tomorrow, Haryana INLD president Ashok Arora here said.
The protest would pass through the bazaars and main roads to exhibit protests against the ''inactivity'' of the Kurukshertra district administration in filing a case against the Congress MLA, he said. It would be led by Haryana INLD president Ashok Arora and tha party's Mahila committee president Ms Kailasho Saini would lead the protest march.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held in Jat Dharamshala here last evening which was attended by the district level leaders of the party.
Mr Arora pointed out that farmer Labh Singh committed suicide on October two allegedly under mental tension because of tremendous pressure posed by the local MLA and businessman of Ladwa Ramesh Gupta on the farmer to repay Rs 4.70 lakh or mortage his land. He said there were many such farmers reeling under mental torture from the police for undue recovery of the dues of loans.
The deceased farmer's son, Satish, said he had discovered a suicide note from the belongings of his father after three days of the suicide and gave it to the police. But the police did not take appropriate action.
He said his efforts to take up the matter with the senior police officials of the district did not yield any positive result.
The BJP district leadership is also likely to organise its own protest rally on the issue on Tueday.
