Govt agencies procure 16.09 lakh tonnes paddy in Haryana

Chandigarh, Oct 23 (UNI) The Haryana government has disbursed a sum of over Rs 1,046 crore to the farmers through the six government procuring agencies for the purchase of 16.09 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during the current kharif marketing season till yesterday.

Disclosing this here today, Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said that during the entire kharif season last year, 23.56 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was procured by the government agencies.

He said that Hafed had disbursed a sum of Rs 456.38 crore to the farmers for the purchase of 7.02 lakh metric tonnes of paddy.A sum of Rs 324.11 crore had been disbursed by the Food and Supplies Department for the purchase of 4.99 lakh metric tonnes of paddy.

Haryana Agro Industries Corporation had purchased 1.96 lakh metric tonnes and had made payments of upto Rs 127.30 crore to the farmers. Confed had purchased 1.24 lakh metic tonnes of paddy and paid the farmers Rs 81.06 crore.

Similarly, Haryana Warehousing Corporation had made payment of Rs 51.41 crore to the farmers for purchasing 79,000 metric tonnes of their paddy. The Food Corporation of India had procured only 9,000 metric tonnes of paddy and had disbursed a sum of Rs 5.82 crore to the farmers.

Mr Chander Mohan said that for the current kharif season, a sum of Rs 1000 crore had been arranged by the state government so that farmers could be paid for their procduce with 42 hours.
