Five killed, two injured in road accident in HP

Shimla, Oct 23 (UNI) At least five people were killed and two seriously injured after a car, they were travelling in, fell into a gorge in Kinnuar district of Himachal Pradesh today, police sources said.

The accident occurred at Wangtu, about 40 km from Rekong Peo, at about 0615 hrs while the vehicle was on its way to Chitkul from Rampur.

The sources said while five people, identified as Manoj, Burfi Ram, Surat Ram, Babu Ram, and Jagat, were killed on the spot, two others, identified as Bhagirath and Rajender, were seriously injured in the accident.

Bhagirath has been referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) here, while Rajender was being treated in the Government Hospital at Bhavanagar, the sources said.

They said the district administration has announced an immediate relief of Rs 10,000 each to the next of the kin of the dead and free medical treatment to the injured.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known, the sources added.

Meanwhile, Shimla district police today recovered the body of Shiv Mandir priest, Krishan Dass, a few metres away from the temple.

A passer by who noticed the body informed the police who recovered his body, the sources said, adding that a case has been registered and investigations were on.
