New Delhi, Oct 23 (UNI) In order to meet rush of commuters during Bhai Duj and Id-ul-Fitr festivals, the DMRC has decided to increase the frequency of its trains tomorrow and on October 25.

The DMRC will operate its trains at peak frequency from 0800 hours and 2030 hours on these two days, the chief spokesperson of the Delhi Metro Anuj Dayal said.

During this period, trains will be available every four minutes on the Shahdara-Rithala and the Central Secretariat-Vishwa Vidyalaya lines and every five minutes on the Barakhamba-Dwarka line.

As a result of increase in frequency, 1190 train trips will be run on Tuesday and Wednesday, an addition of 85 train trips.

In order to meet the extra rush, Delhi Metro will also open extra ticket counters and deploy additional staff at important stations on these days.

Normally, the Metro trains operate on peak frequency from 0800 hours to 1230 hours and 1630 hours to 2030 hours.

During the non-peak hours, the frequency decreases to six to ten minutes.

Last year, the number of passengers on the Metro trains had increased by 46 per cent from normal days while on Id-ul-Fitr last year the ridership went up by 37 per cent from normal days.

Considering that only lines 1 (Shahdara-Rithala) and 2 (Central Secretariat-Vishwa Vidyalaya) of the Delho Metro were operational at that time, the rise in the ridership level is expected to be greater with the line 3 (Barakhamba- Dwarka) also operational now.
