Lucknow, Oct 23: The Congress today alleged the state government was harassing of one of its senior leaders for moving the Election Commission (EC) against Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan.

A party delegation met Governor T V Rajeswar here and handed over a memorandum claiming that party leader and lawyer Amir Haider was being harassed for moving EC against Ms Bachchan for not disclosing properties in the affidavit filed during her polls.

They claimed the UP government was targetting Haider's family and forcing them to withdraw the case even as the EC had starting probing the charges.

''The state officials have arbitrarily suspended functioning of his petrol pump although they found nothing improper during a checking on October 17,'' the delegation told reporters after the meeting.

Congress leader Siraj Mehandi and MLC Naseeb Pathan were part of the delegation.

The memorandum has urged the Governor to interve in the matter.

In his petition to EC, Haider had charged that Ms Bachchan had not disclosed the properties in Barabanki in the name of her husband Amitabh in the RS election affidavit.

He further said he would sent all the evidence to EC soon as demanded by the Commission.
