CESC overpowers electricity theft

Kolkata, Oct 23: Power utility major CESC today said it has been successful in reducing electricity theft in its licensed area during the current festive season.

Power pilferage by roadside stalls and festival organisers are lower except in Serampore area, Executive Director (Corporate Development) Santanu Chatterjee told reporters.

The total number of FIRs lodged against power thefts during the Durga puja were 115, which is significantly lower from previous year's figure of 413, Mr Chatterjee said.

He said CESC would extend the call centre service for attending to complaints of power failures in its entire licensed area by December.

The 1912 dial call centre service is available for central and south Kolkata now.
